Thanks to AES Chile's Mesamávida wind farm:

Residents of San Francisco Cuel complete three community projects

January 29, 2025

The funded initiatives include security infrastructure and facilities for people with reduced mobility at the neighborhood headquarters as well as the installation of solar-powered water extraction systems.

Once again, the members of the San Francisco Cuel neighborhood association have achieved their goals. This time, they completed three initiatives focused on safety and the environment, funded by the Participatory Global Fund associated with AES Chile's Mesamávida wind farm.

To celebrate this achievement, a closing ceremony for the second Participatory Global Fund was held on January 21, attended by residents of San Francisco Cuel, company representatives, and officials from the Municipality of Los Ángeles.

This milestone marks the end of the work that began in July 2024, when the local residents identified their main issues and, together with the AES Chile Foundation, designed three participatory projects under the name ”Living in Safety and Harmony with the Environment,” benefiting more than 350 people.

The first project involved implementing security measures at the entrances and perimeter of the San Francisco Neighborhood Association's social headquarters (automation of the main gate, window and door protections, fencing, and perimeter closure of the property). The second project was the installation of a bathroom for people with reduced mobility, and finally, the delivery and installation of solar and hybrid-powered water extraction systems for families in the area, complementing a previous initiative carried out in 2023.

Horacio Inostroza, president of the San Francisco Neighborhood Association, thanked AES Chile for providing the resources to finance these projects and added that these initiatives ”are a tremendous advancement for our neighbors, as the solar pumps allow us to save energy and maintain irrigation in this time of high water demand.”

Meanwhile, Rubén Barahona, head of Operations and Maintenance at the Mesamávida Wind Farm, highlighted that ”as AES, we are proud to contribute a small part to this initiative taken by the communities, allowing them to develop the projects they decide on together and achieve thanks to these funds provided by the company.”

The attendees at the closing ceremony agreed to continue working along the same lines for future versions of the Participatory Fund, as there are still 23 versions remaining.
