June 25, 2024

Two rural schools in Los Ángeles held a special celebration for World Environment Day, hosting AES Chile team members to discuss renewable energy, recycling and the importance of caring for nature.

The team from Mesamávida Wind Farm, represented by Operations Manager Rubén Barahona along with Carolina Rivas and Juan Gajardo, visited Aguada de Cuel School located in San Francisco. They met with 30 students from 4th to 8th grade. Together with teachers, environmental team members and school leadership, they discussed the importance of environmental care, recycling, energy generation and the operation of wind turbines.

Luis Luengo Bastias, the director of Aguada de Cuel School, expressed gratitude for “the intervention in celebrating Environment Day. It was a learning-filled experience that the children greatly appreciated. We appreciate the collaboration and hope to continue working together.”

The team from Campo Lindo Wind Farm, including Operations Manager Cristián Olivares, Gaston Riquelme and Blanca Bossa, visited Virquenco School. They engaged in a discussion with 30 students from 5th to 8th grade who form the school's environmental brigade. The discussion focused on the importance of renewable energies as a response to climate change, and they also provided a didactic explanation of how wind farms operate, specifically Campo Lindo. The students were invited to visit Campo Lindo to see its operation firsthand.

Francisco Salgado, the director of Virquenco School, appreciated the experience and the opportunity to share knowledge. He noted, “The content was very relevant and appropriate for the students' age, leaving them motivated to achieve goals and pursue dreams related to energy.”
