Rural community of Mulchén enables new children's spaces thanks to the support of the Los Olmos Wind Farm
July 10, 2023
The inhabitants of the El Araucano de Mulchén community already have a new recreational space for children's games for girls and boys in the sector, thanks to the financing of the 2022 Global Participatory Fund of the Los Olmos Wind Farm of AES Chile.
The initiative is located on the same land as the community headquarters and is the product of collaborative work between leaders, neighbors and the company. It will benefit 60 families that did not have an infrastructure of this type, being in a rural area far from the city.
The new infrastructure for community use has games such as slides, swings, and seesaws. In addition, it adds to other initiatives already completed between the El Araucano community and the Los Olmos Wind Farm, such as the fitting out of the soccer field also located on the land where the community headquarters is located.
The equipment corresponds to one of the six areas of action of the Global Participatory Fund of the wind farm, as in this case in reference to support initiatives to promote healthy living and sports in its different disciplines.
“Our neighbors are very grateful and happy with the achievement that we achieved as a community, thanks to the help of the Los Olmos Wind Farm. Undoubtedly, the project will provide a new space for recreation, entertainment, and a meeting point for children and adults in the sector,” said Marcelo García, leader of the Malven Araucano Neighborhood Council.
Meanwhile, the Head of Operations at the Los Olmos Wind Farm, Rubén Barahona, highlighted that “this type of initiative is a reflection of the joint work between the community and the company, which seeks to improve the quality of life of the neighbors. As a company we are very happy to be able to contribute with this type of project and we hope to continue working with the leaders and inhabitants of the sector”.
The Los Olmos Wind Farm Global Participatory Fund was implemented with the start of operation of the plant, which is part of the Greentegra transformational strategy that AES Chile launched in May 2018 and which, together with accelerating the future of energy, seeks to contribute to mitigate the effects of climate change.
