The initiative managed to benefit some 1,200 people directly, with a significant impact on the floating population associated with tourism.

Neighbors of San José de Maipo improve water pipe system with support from Competitive Fund

January 10, 2024

Important improvements in the drinking water infrastructure were achieved by the residents of the El Ingenio sector of San José de Maipo.

This involves replacing the old pipes installed in the 90s with a new line close to a thousand meters long, in order to ensure a continuous and permanent flow of water.

The initiative managed to benefit 339 members of the El Ingenio Balneario Corporation and some 1,200 immediate family members, in addition to generating a positive impact for the floating population on weekends due to tourist activity in the area.

The project is part of the tenth version of the San José de Maipo Competitive Fund, which is part of the social agreement agreed upon by Alto Maipo, the Illustrious Municipality of San José de Maipo and the Communal Union of Neighborhood Councils.

The funds were awarded to the El Ingenio Balneario Corporation, an organization created in 1980 and whose main purpose is to ensure adequate collection, sanitation and distribution of water resources.

The opening ceremony was held at the headquarters of the Neighborhood Council No. 13 El Ingenio and was attended by the directors of the El Ingenio Balneario Corporation, community representatives and the AES Chile Foundation, as well as residents of the sector.

Mónica Guzmán, administrator of the Corporation, said that “our main concern is delivering water to El Ingenio. For this project, the priority was to continue the change of pipes in a fairly complex section of the line in which the pipes are absolutely exposed.”

The administrator added that "I want to thank AES Chile for the contribution and trust placed in us in this quite ambitious project that was successfully developed for the neighbors."

Macarena Badilla, head of social investment at the AES Chile Foundation (entity that acts as technical secretary of the Competitive Fund), assured that “it fills us with joy to be able to contribute to concrete improvements that directly benefit the quality of life of the neighbors. I want to thank the Corporation for its collaboration for all the effort they put into carrying out such a necessary project.”

In another important initiative of the Competitive Fund, the Neighborhood Council No. 13 El Ingenio managed to inaugurate a new infrastructure for the sector's plaza, with the installation of new seats and a redesign. It is a space used for various sports, recreational and social activities, which directly benefits around 1,800 people.
