Neighbors of Candelaria Virquenco improve the security of the sector with solar energy

November 27, 2024

The initiative, which includes cameras and solar-powered lights, was made possible thanks to the first Global Participatory Fund for the community associated with the operation of AES Chile’s Campo Lindo Wind Farm.

With a ceremony held at their social headquarters, the Candelaria Virquenco Neighborhood Council officially inaugurated the project "For a Better Virquenco," which aimed to achieve greater security in this rural sector. The event was attended by community members - representing the more than 1,700 inhabitants distributed in this locality - from the Municipality of Los Ángeles and AES Chile.

The initiative – made possible thanks to the first Global Participatory Fund of the Campo Lindo Wind Farm and designed in conjunction with the community itself – consisted of the installation of 63 solar-powered lights and 10 cameras, which were distributed at various points in the locality.

Marcelo Ríos, president of the Candelaria Virquenco Neighborhood Council, highlighted that, with this contribution, “We will be able to further reduce crime and theft in this sector. On behalf of the community, I thank Campo Lindo for this great project.”

Paola Olivares, director of Fundación AES Chile, said, “Safety, in all its aspects, is the company's top value. That is why we are very pleased that the community has completed this project, which directly benefits each of its members. We hope to continue seeing this type of initiative in the coming years, which are of shared value for an entire community.”

The Global Participatory Fund – which has a Local Council made up of neighborhood representatives, the municipality and AES Chile – is part of the Collaboration Agreement between the company and the community, which will be effective throughout the operation of the Campo Lindo Wind Farm.
