Municipality of Mejillones and AES Chile sign agreement to finance preliminary project for new fishing and tourism center

Invigorating the fishing and tourist activity of Mejillones is the main objective of the preliminary project that seeks to provide the commune with a fishing and tourist hub.

With this objective, AES Chile and the municipality signed an agreement that will allow financing the design of the preliminary project that will directly benefit the fishermen and shellfish harvesters, who hope to realize the old desire of converting the fishing cove - close to 50 years old - into a fishing terminal with high standards.

The agreement signed between Mayor Marcelino Carvajal and the manager of the company's North Complex, Vanni Boggio, establishes financing close to 18 million for the design of the architectural initiative.

This is intended to enable fishermen to sell their products and install restaurants to boost tourism and create new jobs.

Thanks to these resources, the Association of Municipalities of the Antofagasta Region (AMRA) is already working on the design of the preliminary project, which is expected to be completed in the coming weeks to be applied for the funds provided by the Ministry of Public Works (MOP). , through its Port Works Directorate.

“I want to thank AES Chile for this very important support to the fishermen of the commune's cove,” said Mayor Marcelino Carvajal.

The communal authority added that “with this alliance between the public and private world, especially with AES Chile, we have the great opportunity to carry out this work and once completed, deliver to the MOP and materialize the request for a project that would exceed 7,000 million pesos. and thus have a fishing terminal as appropriate.”

The Vice President of Corporate Affairs of AES Andes, Mariana Soto, indicated that “as a company, one of our main objectives is to support communities in initiatives that stimulate local economic activity, generate new jobs and thus improve the quality of life of the communities. “neighbors and neighbors.”
