More than 180 residents from the Neighborhood Associations of San Francisco Cuel, Paso de Arena, San Manuel and Mesamávida, in the commune of Los Ángeles, participated in the Project Preparation Workshops carried out by the AES Chile Foundation team in the framework of the second version of the Mesamávida Wind Farm Participatory Global Fund.
Those attending the 4 workshops actively participated in raising ideas and determining their community project, which in this version will be oriented to the areas of infrastructure for community use and energy efficiency.
The objective of these workshops is for communities to prioritize their needs and be able to recognize the problems they have to look for possible solutions
The Participatory Global Fund will be implemented throughout the useful life of the Mesamávida Wind Farm and allows social organizations in the territory to finance initiatives in 6 areas of action with a focus on local development
Horacio Inostroza, president of the San Francisco Cuel Neighborhood Council, highlighted the initiative. “The workshops that AES Chile carries out with the communities seem to me to be a very good opportunity, since they clarify many things for the community. It also allows us to get to know the people of the Mesamávida Wind Farm more and for them to get to know our community and see the interest there is in the projects that are being developed.”
Macarena Badilla, head of social investment at the AES Chile Foundation, said she was very happy with the high turnout for the workshops. “This is a participatory instance where neighbors raise their needs and determine how the resources available to each of the organizations will be used, giving emphasis to the community and the well-being of each of its members,” she said.
Ella badilla added that “we hope to continue promoting this participatory phase, so that each year the main needs are visualized and then we see the results with the materialization of the projects.”
