July 5, 2023

With positive and fruitful agreements, the first meeting of the Council of the Global Participatory Fund (FGP) of the Mesamávida Wind Farm of AES Chile was held.

The FGP is one of commitment assumed by the company and the communities through a collaboration agreement, which has been specified in each of the stages of the process.

The FGP Council is in charge of defining, year after year, the bases that guide the financing process of the projects that will be developed by the four neighborhood associations of the western rural sector of the commune: Mesamávida; Sand Pass; San Francisco Cuel and San Manuel, which constitute the area of influence of the park.

These are territorial organizations that fulfill the fundamental role of representing the residents of the area and each of them considers a representative in the FGP, to which are added two members of the company and another from the municipality.

The AES Chile Foundation is in charge of managing the Participatory Fund and also exercises the role of technical secretariat in the Council.

Among the main agreements made by the instance in its first session on June 27, the payment modality for the funds was approved, which will be in two installments of 50% each.

In addition, it was approved that the projects related to local and individual community entrepreneurship must be presented and validated by the neighborhood associations, while the presidency of the Council will be defined in the next session because not all the members will be present.

The initiatives that may be financed with FGP resources correspond to six areas of action related to the main priorities of residents: education and training; infrastructure and equipment; strengthening of local identity; support for initiatives to promote healthy living and sports, together with the promotion of local entrepreneurship, in addition to caring for the environment and energy efficiency.

"It seems to me a very good instance, since together with the other leaders you can find the best options, which would directly benefit our community and neighbors," said Gloria Álvarez, president of the San Manuel Neighborhood Council.

Meanwhile, the Head of Operations of the Mesamávida Wind Farm, Rubén Barahona, stressed that “this type of initiative allows all parties to be present in the decisions that are made annually. I am very proud to be part of this council, which will carry on for the life of the park”.
