AES Chile is recognized by IST for its contribution to prevention

Santiago, November 2024.- AES Chile was recognized by the Institute of Occupational Safety (IST) at its Annual Prevention Ceremony 2024, where companies and individuals were distinguished for their commitment to safety, life care, and workplace well-being.

On this occasion, the Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) for the inspection of confined spaces and emergencies, designed and built by Sergio Guzmán, Claudio Vergara, David Rebolledo, Pablo Araya, and Cristian Figueroa from the SIC transmission sub-management team of AES Chile, was recognized in the category of Outstanding Contribution to Prevention.

The ROV is equipped with video/thermal cameras that send real-time information about the observed location's status regarding hot spots and environmental variable measurements, minimizing people's exposure to harmful agents and/or other types of risks.

Sergio Guzmán, head of study and planning transmission SIC, indicated that “for AES, the main value is people's safety, and we made the ROV with that in mind. That this resulted in an award is very important to us. As a team, we are very happy with the IST recognition; it fills us with pride.”

Meanwhile, IST's national prevention manager, Raúl Rojas, indicated that the ROV “is an innovation in prevention because it allows access to confined spaces and detects hazardous environmental conditions or extreme temperatures that can cause adverse health effects. This is a contribution not only for AES but also for many of the companies that are IST adherents and for the country. This motivates other organizations and workers to seek new ways and innovations that protect life.”

For Axel Salvo, AES Chile's safety manager, “this award represents that the safety culture we have worked on in the company is also reflected in these works, which allow us to minimize people's exposure and reduce the risks they face in their daily work.”

The annual IST distinctions are a symbol of the good preventive work done by companies, the joint committee, and the workers.
